Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak survives as owner Bud Adams sacks COO Mike Reinfeldt – NFL News
It appears Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak’s mercy plea to owner Bud Adams has paid off as the official has survived sacking scare for himself and now it is to be seen if his assistant staff is lucky enough to be retained by the team.
Soon after coming out of the season with the poor record of 6-10, the owner stuck to his earlier warning of making all officials including coaches face scrutiny if the team did not improve, and fired chief operating officer Mike Reinfeldt.
Luckily, none of the coaching staff including Munchak has met this fate but there is a greater likelihood that some of assistant coaches would be let go. If so, the process can be expected starting from next week when the head coach plans to meet the owner.
Munchak confirmed sacking of the operating officer but said the owner has stuck to his advice that he should let the coaches have another opportunity. The coach said that Adams who is about to turn 90 understands that two years was not an enough period to
turn around the team.
He said:
"He felt that move (firing the coach) right now wasn't the right move to make so hopefully I'll prove him right.”
The head coach went on to say that he understands the owner’s ambitions for winning a championship title for the team, which he could try to achieve if given more time.
Munchak has entered third year of his four-year contract, but he might not be given another year if the Titans go on to end the 2013 season with a similar record.
He was specifically asked during a media call if the owner has given him a mandate to win a championship title or achieve any other milestone in 2013, and the coach said he has not been given such a target yet. He said he was due to meet the owner next week
and he could possibly be told about next year’s plans and agenda by the owner.
At the forthcoming meeting it is expected that performance record of coordinators would be evaluated, which could also lead to exit of some more officials from Tennessee.
