Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak throws full support behind RB Chris Johnson – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have ruled out a change at the running back position because of their 0-2 record, allowing Chris Johnson to continue in the leading role unaffected.
Chris along with quarterback Jake Locker has become a target of fans and some analysts’ lashing for ending both initial games quite lower than expectations, but coach Mike Munchak thinks they should not be blamed for the overall team failure.
Following his backing to QB Jake as the offence leader of the team, he has now thrown support behind the running back as a starter at the RB position, expecting them to bounce back on their sluggish start to the season.
The coach said:
"He's a guy we expect to (make plays). Unfortunately it's been more in the passing game than the running game after two games. Yeah, we have a lot of work ahead but it's not all C.J., so we're not going to bench a running back over where we're at right now
on offence."
Chris had rushed for over a thousand (1,047) yards during the past season in spite of the fact that he had held himself out of training camp in protest to back a fresh deal demand. He later signed a four-year contract carrying value of $53 million with $30
million guaranteed.
Munchak still has a strong belief in the player’s abilities and has rejected the demands for his replacement after the team’s failure in the pair of starting games.
Meanwhile, Johnson himself has taken on the teammates for their poor showing which he thinks has affected the chances of complementing his performance.
He said:
"People need to step up and do their job. They don't need to let people beat them. It don't matter who the opposing defence is, you can't let your guy beat you. You just can't give up plays. You have to make plays like they make plays."
So with full support from the team, both Johnson and Locker are expected to retain their positions as leaders in the longer run and can possibly step up their games as per wishes of the coach and other members of the Titans' organisation.
