Tennessee Titans coaches back defence for fearless aggressive play – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have urged their defensive players to play an aggressive and smarter game and leave their fears of making fouls and fines behind them.
The players’ fears of making fouls and being fined should not come as excuses for them to falling short playing their game up to the edge, their defensive co-ordinator and head coach said, adding that they (players) cannot make
plays and nurture their fears the same time.
Hit hard and hit clean is a message for Tennessee Titans defence from their defensive co-ordinator Jerry Gray for their next game against New Orleans Saints this Sunday.
The defensive co-ordinator while giving out his take for their next game seems less cared about injuries and fines from National Football League (NFL).
"The biggest thing I think in this league is you have to start putting fear in guys from throwing the ball in the middle of the field," Gray told The Tennessean newspaper. "And if that means getting a letter from the commissioner
on Monday, which means getting a letter from the commissioner."
He was well backed by his boss, Titans head coach Mike Munchak, who agreed to play aggressive and leave consequences etc for a later stage.
"There is no doubt we want guys that are going to dislodge that ball," the newspaper cited Munchak as saying.
He said that he did not want their players to be worried about fines etc, adding there was no reason to be timid and explained it as justification for not making plays. He said their players should go the way they wanted to and
leave their fears of consequences aside.
The coaches however were described to be very clear in not encouraging their players for making illegal plays.
Players from almost all teams had been fined by National Football League (NFL) office for their illegal plays since beginning of the current regular seasons. Many fines have drawn severe criticism from players and team managers
to be unjustified.
NFL office has recently started placing an observer at Press Box office to observe each game. The fines and latest observatory developments have put many players to be careful in making plays.
Munchak said that there were plenty of opportunities for players to play smart, and still be aggressive without making fouls at the same time.
"There are a lot of teams, a lot of secondaries making great plays on the ball and making great hits, clean hits," he said.
Titans tie against the Saints is crucial not only for them but the Houston Texans as well. Texans will be watching this game closely. Texans win and Titans loss will enable Texans to clinch American Football Conference (AFC) south
division.
