Tennessee Titans crush Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football
Four quarterbacks played on Monday Night Football, which saw the Tennessee Titans defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-3 as the Titans (4-2) join
Indianapolis and Houston in three-way tie atop the AFC South.
Titans starting quarterback Vince Young wasted no time scoring on Teneessee’s opening drive after connecting on a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt. On his next series, Young fumbled the ball and sprained
his left knee trying to recover the ball, which was recovered by the Jags’ defence. Young did not return and watched the rest of the game from the sidelines.
'He's a little sore,'' Titans coach Jeff Fisher said adding that Young also sprained his left ankle. ''He could have finished in shotgun.''
This opened the door for backup Kerry Collins who added 10 points on the board to give the Titans a 17-0 led after two quarters.
"Kerry did a nice job and that's why Kerry's here,'' Fisher said. ''We're very, very fortunate that we have two very good quarterbacks.''
The Jaguars did have a chance to cut the lead right before the first half ended, but tight-end Marcedes Lewis fumbled at the Tennessee 10-yard line, eliminating any offensive threat. The Jaguars finished
with four turnovers.
''We can't shoot ourselves in the foot like that,'' Lewis said. ''It's not them beating us. It's us beating ourselves. It's self-inflicted. And playing from behind, that's not us.''
Jacksonville also lost their starting quarterback David Garrard, who sustained a concussion in the second quarter after a hit by Will Witherspoon. Garrard completed seven of 12 passes for 49 yards with
one interception.
Trent Edwards, who was acquired three weeks ago after the Buffalo Bills released him, came in the game in the second half and tried to give his team a much needed spark.
However, on the opening drive in the third quarter, Edwards made a poor decision and threw a pass that was intercepted by rookie Alterraun Verner.
This set up a 33-yard field goal by Titans’ kicker Rob Bironas. The Jags finally got on the board late in the third quarter with a field goal of their own, but that was all they were able to muster in
a disappointing effort.
"It's unacceptable to lose games in that way,'' safety Gerald Alexander said. ''To have lopsided losses like that, it just shows inconsistency. It's demoralizing.''
Collins, 37, completed 11 of 16 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown and running-back Chris Johnson rushed for 111 yards and one TD. Johnson broke the century mark with a 35-yard run with less than two
minutes remaining of the clock.
