Tennessee Titans fail many chances to allow easy 24-19 win to Jacksonville Jaguars – NFL Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars finally managed to beat the Tennessee Titans in 24-19 tight finish game on Sunday (Nov. 25) and the win is unique for the hosts in many aspects.
First, their new offence leader quarterback Chad Henne with his two touchdowns managed to sparkle one of the league’s worst offences. Henne, who has replaced QB Blaine Gabbert who has failed the team for second consecutive year is out with a forearm injury,
has performed remarkably well in the second successive game.
Blaine’s season has ended with the injury, as he requires a surgery and will be unable to recover in the five games left in the season. It is rather win-win opportunity for Blaine and the Jags, given the latter did not have an option of replacing the former
and injury is rather blessing in disguise for them.
Second, it is for the first time that the Jags have been very competitive outfit at their home ground. Their home record has so far been unimpressive and some of easily beatable oppositions have conveniently walked over them.
Third, it has helped the team to snap its seven-game losing streak and their record is slightly better at 2-9.
The team managed to hold on by a sheer amount of luck to an extent despite committing so many mistakes to allow seven turnovers, an interception and many other chances.
It was rather undisciplined side of the Titans who failed to capitalise on these opportunities and allowed an easy win to opposition at the end. Although the Titans are struggling through some injury scares, their overall performance of the season is very
shaky indeed.
Coach Mike Munchak has rightly questioned the preparedness and purpose of the team in the game. He said:
"I don't think guys expected to come in here and just walk out and win the game. Every team in the NFL is a good football team. If you don't think that, you're mistaken. I don't think our team prepared that way. I don't think we came here with that mindset
today. We just didn't execute as well as we needed to win the game."
The result also shows that the coach continues to face pressure from owner Bud Adams, who has already warned the coach that he will scrutinise all team officials if they perform as miserably as have done so far in the season. He is aware that the Titans
do not look like a side who had managed to thrive on 9-7 position in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division last season.
It is pertinent to mention that Titans’ loss has helped the playoffs cause of the Indianapolis Colts who with a win over the Buffalo Bills have further consolidated their lead to 7-4, behind the Houston Texans.
