Tennessee Titans happy over quarterback situation after losing on race for Peyton Manning-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have confirmed to be happy with their quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, and rookie QB, Jake Locker, after having lost on the race for the free agent QB, Peyton Manning.
Peyton Manning confirmed Monday, March 19, 2012, to have chosen the Denver Broncos over Titans and the San Francisco 49ers, and this left Titans’ ambitious owner, Bud Adams, with a statement that he was satisfied with the team’s quarterback situation.
This also clears the uncertainty that had emerged around the future of Matt Hasselbeck as result of Manning’s signing talk and the owner admitted the QB with rookie Locker was put in a difficult situation.
Apparently in an attempt to rectify the damaged done, Adams released a statement, soon after Peyton Manning told them he was not coming to Tennessee.
The statement reads:
"They were thrown into a very difficult situation. Matt was very good for us last year. And at some point, we expect Jake to be our future franchise quarterback."
A sword of axing started hanging over Hasselbeck following confirmation of the team’s intentions of pursuing Peyton’s signing at all costs, which included the lifetime contract offer from the owner.
Hasselbeck apparently lacked an answer to it and probably an alternative choice and admitted to be unsure about asking Titans for the release or accepting something else such as a backup role in case of Manning’s joining the team.
With Manning now confirmed to be out of their contentions, all the parties are seemed happy over the persistent arrangement at the quarterback position.
This leaves Hasselbeck, who had been handed over a three-year contract in July 2011, on the starting position, while Locker has been urged to improve his game with chances of getting the first position in the future.
Adams’ statement has come within the twice expressed stance of the general manger, Ruston Webster, who said that the team was content with Hasselbeck and Locker as their quarterbacks.
His obvious reference was the performance of the players during 2011 National Football League (NFL) season. They helped the side to finish at 9-7 record, second on the American Football Conference (AFC) South division, and were just unlucky to have missed
on the chance for a playoffs berth.
Hasselbeck had remained their main performer of the season but Locker proved himself to be not lacking talent and skills, either, whenever he had the opportunity to replace him on the starting line.
As a matter of fact, the team was reported to be in a fix at one point about the choice who should get the starting role, Hasselbeck or Locker?
However, they left the position to Hasselbeck but did not discourage the younger player, either. The coach, Mike Munchak, said that both players must be competing for the number one position in the off season.
