Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak backs new secondary staff Brett Maxie – NFL News
Tennessee Titans' coach, Mike Munchak, has backed the team’s new secondary coach, Brett Maxie, for having a diverse background and rich experience as a coach and pro football player.
Maxie has been signed by the Titans to replace former secondary coach, Marcus Robertson, who had been released from his contract at the end of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
The hiring of the new secondary coach was announced by the Titans' management on Monday, January 16, 2012, after earlier confirmation that their former staff, bearing similar responsibilities had not been retained by the side for another season.
Munchak has welcomed the appointment saying the diverse experience of Brett Maxie as a player and his coaching background made him stand out among other potential candidates that the side had targeted to fill the slot.
He stated that he was hopeful of the new coach contributing towards development of the Titans' line-up, that has just come out of a rather good regular season.
The Titans finished the season with nine wins and seven losses and have almost made it to the playoffs through a wild-card.
It was only due to the unexpected developments such as the loss against New York Jets that they were held back in their prospects of playing the postseason round.
They finished as the second best outfit in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division, just behind the division champions, Houston Texans.
The coach praised his young side for their performance during the past year, except for falling prey to their own luck at the end to go beyond the regular season.
Apparently, being content with their performance, it is less likely for the Titans to introduce as many changes in their management or squad as other teams around the league have been making since the end of the regular season.
The replacement of the secondary coach with new hiring is probably the first and the only change that the Tennessee Titans have made in their side so far and according to their coach, it was spot on and likely to serve well into their hopes for improvement
in the unit.
Maxie, the new secondary coach, brings along with him 14 years of coaching experience.
He has served teams like Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers.
Lately, he has been working with the Dallas Cowboys for the past four years before joining the Texans.
Moreover, the coach has also played as a football player himself in the American professional football premier league for nearly 13 years.
His pro career started signing with the New Orleans in 1985 and is spread over a span of 13 years.
Maxie’s record includes 104 starts, 23 interceptions and three touchdowns. He played as many as 153 games as a pro before his retirement in late 1990s.
