Tennessee Titans in fresh hopes of signing QB Peyton Manning in near future-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans expect a final decision on the potential signing of free agent quarterback, Peyton Manning, in the near future.
New hopes on Manning’s second coming to Tennessee, where he played his college football league, have arisen from the reportedly planned meeting between Titans’ representatives and the player, on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
A contingent of Titans including the ambitious owner, Bud Adams, coach, Mike Munchak, and some junior managers from the front office are likely to fly out of Nashville on Wednesday to an unknown destination where the proposed meeting is going to take place.
They are expected to spend about a day with the player, and the only point on their agenda is going to be none other than convincing the player to join Titans for the rest of his professional career.
Even though there is no word of confirmation or denial regarding talks with Titans from either the player or his agent, Adams is optimistic about a positive development sooner.
Adams said:
"I think he's wanting to sign up with somebody pretty quickly."
With nothing concrete as yet that could point out at Titans’ chances of getting hold of the player on a long-term deal, reports of surge in the activity at the front office of the team show they are excited about the prospects.
Titans did not join the list of Manning’s hopefuls in the early phase of the campaign, but have emerged as one of the strongest contenders lately. It could be because they were not sure about his release by Indianapolis Colts then.
Now the owner, all of sudden, said that he wanted Manning at all costs.
Apparently, he has pushed forward the coach to lead the drive for the player’s signing but is keeping himself abreast with the developments and advising him on all the matters continuously.
Meanwhile, Colts’ former vice chairman, Bill Polian, who has worked with Manning for more than a decade, has again come out with his outspoken analysis on the player’s future prospects.
Polian believes that the race for the player is only a two-team pursuit. He noted that Titans did have a chance for bringing the player home as the player and his wife have a house there and could possibly weigh options of settling there.
He said:
"Well, I see it as a dead heat at this point (between the Broncos and Titans). The Titans do have the home-field advantage as both he and his wife have a great affection for the state of Tennessee, they have a home in Chattanooga, so it's possible that that
could be the deciding factor. But I think for sure (he'll join an) AFC (team) and (it's) very definitely a tough decision for him."
Peyton, who has already met with the officials from Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, is yet to hint at his preferences.
