Tennessee Titans mull adding safeties to consolidate secondary strength before training camp-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have finally come to the realisation of their thin secondary situation as they mull adding one or a couple of players to the position.
A pair of free-agent safeties is due for a workout for the team this week, giving birth to the prospects of their signing.
The decision has been taken to avoid a holdback during the training camp, which, with present level of players’ strength, seems to be a possibility.
According to Titans, they are hosting Chris Crocker and Yeremiah Bell and can sign one or both of them, provided the management is content with their output.
Bell might have greater chances because he has his former coaching boss, Brett Maxie, working as the secondary coach at Titans, and he will have an opportunity to reunite with him.
Bell has played his entire professional career, spread over nine years, at Dolphins since being inducted into the side in the 2003 draft. He was released in March this year due to some unknown deal issues.
Maxie, during his stint at Dolphins in 2007, coached Bell and the player’s arrival in Tennessee will be a good opportunity for the official to have his trusted man under his supervision once again.
On the other hand, Crocker also has nine years of experience at his resume.
He was inducted into Cleveland Browns in 2003 but has been going places since then. He has also played for the Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins.
It is difficult to determine if Titans will sign one or both players, but apparently they have space on the roster to accommodate both.
They might have more space on the roster if Michael Griffin is unable to sort out his deal issue with the management.
Griffin, who has been assigned the franchise tag, has so far not signed his tender worth $6.212 million.
The delay reflects that mood at Tennessee is not very conducive and the player might opt for protest to press his demand, leaving more space open.
Meanwhile, Titans have re-signed Jordan Babineaux to a new deal but it does not serve to their need for experience at the secondary position.
