Tennessee Titans present case of signing Peyton Manning in inconclusive meeting with QB-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans had their turn for presenting a case to sign free agent quarterback, Peyton Manning, on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, and the meeting with the player, which lasted for about eight hours, has reportedly remained inconclusive.
None of the team’s officials, who respectively met the player at the team’s headquarters in Tennessee, has offered any post-meeting comments.
Also, the player’s agent, Tom Condon, is as much silent as the player himself. So, by and large, the meeting has been limited to the player’s informal visit of the team’s facilities and discussion around the initial idea of bringing the QB to the state in
the future.
Some anonymous sources privy to the developments of the visit and moot disclosed to the local media that those who met Peyton included Titans’ owner, Bud Adams, general manager, Ruston Webster, chief operating officer, Mike Reinfeldt, coach, Mike Munchak,
the team’s doctor, Burton Elrod, and some of junior staff from the front office.
Peyton is reported to have viewed the team’s facilities, where he was also briefed about them.
Later, the player spent about six hours in discussion with the team officials, leaving finally at about 10.00 pm ET (local time) by waving to some 50 fans, who had gathered outside the team’s headquarters and chanted slogans in support of the player.
A couple of reports suggested that the player headed back to Carolina after the meeting but the claims were not confirmed independently.
This leaves the situation to the statement of the player that he was open to all options. He is expected to meet more teams after having visited to the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans.
It is pertinent to note here that the player has not done any workout in front of all those officials.
Titans, who had their doctor present at the meeting and watched videos of the player throwing ball at an aggressive pace, were apparently satisfied with his recovery and fitness.
However, since the player has offered to work out in front of the interested parties, it could happen if Titans emerged as clear contender for Manning’s signing.
Peyton Manning is reportedly not interested in throwing ball and proving his fitness until he has a clear and definite interest from a team for his signing.
It was his second day at the free agency market, since the release by Colts. So far, the player has not received any solid offer from any side.
The final offers are unlikely to be made until the player is done with his planned visits and meetings with potential suitors, which could possibly take a couple of weeks. He has not been linked to singing with any team yet.
