Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to remain starter in Week 7 – NFL News
Tennessee Titans will start with their backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck against Buffalo Bills in Week 7 tie on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Quarterback Jake Locker will once again remain out due to injury.
After getting a 26-23 win against Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, Titans (2-4) returned to the practice field on Monday October 15.
Giving updates about status of Locker’s injury and his availability for next game, Titans head coach Mike Munchak said:
"I wouldn't think he'd play this week. He's doing better, much better than he was last week at this time. He'll probably start doing more activity this week. But again, we'll just have to wait and see how he does the next couple days, how fast he comes along. I would imagine it would take him another week."
Hasselbeck will get his third consecutive start when he plays against Bills. Munchak said that he is fortunate enough to have a backup like Hasselbeck so that Locker can take the due time to fully recover from his shoulder injury.
Locker slightly hurt his shoulder during the season opener against New England Patriots. Although he was able to recover from that injury, he dislocated the same shoulder during Week 4 game against Houston Texans.
Munchak revealed that Locker desperately wants to return to the field, but he cannot be rushed into anything before getting full recovery. He said:
"He's all in now for Matt to do well because he knows if Matt does well, the team does well and then hopefully at some point Jake will be coming back and leading this thing and obviously we want to be in the playoff hunt."
Even though Munchak is hoping to secure a playoff berth, it will take some hard work to turn the tables after losing four games in six weeks.
Titans offence needs to step up its game. Their running game is currently placed at the bottom in the league despite a 91-yard performance by running back Chris Johnson. The coach also said that Locker will hopefully become available for Week 8 tie against Indianapolis Colts.
