Tennessee Titans retain linebacker Tim Shaw on a new undisclosed deal-NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ special teams’ captain, linebacker, Tim Shaw, is confirmed to have signed a new deal with the team, but the player and Titans, both, refrained from disclosing the terms of the contract.
Shaw had become an unrestricted free agent, following the expiry of his previous contract with Titans, but now both parties have confirmed agreement to new terms, which leaves the player at Tennessee for more seasons to come.
Titans’ management also disclosed to have negotiated the new contract with the player successfully.
Just like the player and his agent, they too have not provided any details of the deal i.e. tenure and value.
Earlier, some reports linked the team to talks with the linebacker. However, the matter was not elaborated with regard to its prospective outcome.
A couple of reports hinted at the possibility of some difficulties for both sides to agree and accept the fresh terms.
Shaw, who always said that coming back to Titans was the first choice among his future moves, was reportedly in disagreement about the financial terms of the new deal.
The player admitted:
“The process wasn't an easy one. But from the jump, Tennessee is where I wanted to be. This is where I wanted to be. I am excited about the direction this team is going."
Now, the confirmation of signing the new contract has left that issue out of contention and both parties are said to be looking forward to the player’s rejoining to the squad later this year.
The linebacker’s record includes 35 tackles. He was named as special teams’ captain last season and had performed well in the role.
His form is going to be crucial to Titans’ wins this season. The team was unlucky to have missed on the opportunity of reaching the playoffs last year. However, the season was far better than a year earlier.
Titans’ coach, Mike Munchak, has helped the team to stage a turnaround to finish the season with 7-9 in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division.
It was unfortunate for them that they could not make it to the playoffs.
However, the team is aiming to make up for the loss this season, targeting the second round at least.
Given the amount of talent the team has, Titans will be on the course to go even beyond the playoffs.
Some of the recent measures such as Shaw’s re-signing have confirmed their intentions of finishing the undone job of past season.
