Tennessee Titans rule out QB Peyton Manning signing if released by Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have ruled out the possibility of signing Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, if he is released by his team, saying they were already in good hands.
A campaign demanding the homecoming of Peyton Manning, who had played college league in the Tennessee, has been launched online through a purpose-launched website, and Titans’ general manager, Ruston Webster, said that it is stature of the player that makes
him most wanted by Titans' fans.
He, at the same time, emphasised that his team did not need to pursue singing of the QB, as they already had a good offensive attack line.
"We also feel like we're in good hands," Webster said.
Apparently, his reference was their QB, Matt Hasselbeck, who had been inducted into the team on a three-year deal of worth $20 million in July 2011.
Titans finished the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season with the record of 9-7 (nine wins and seven losses), and could have made it to playoff round; losing the chance to their luck at the end.
The team also has another option in presence of the Rookie QB, Jake Locker, who had showed tremendous game skills during his induction as an on-game replacement of Hasselbeck at a number of occasions.
"He showed enough during the season to warrant a chance to win the job, and he'll have a good shot to do that," Webster said of Locker. "Very talented player, he brings a lot of excitement to the game, and so we are as excited as you are about seeing him
out there. It'll be a good competition. It won't just be Matt's job or anything like that, and Matt knows that. The best man will win."
Locker’s impressive show-off had led a controversy at one occasion around the question who will be at starting position: Matt Hasselbeck or Jake Locker?
At the end, the role was left for the regular quarterback, after he managed to return from injury to play for rest of the season.
In presence of the two well performing players, Webster said that Titans would not go after Peyton Manning despite that the player is one of the best quarterbacks and could land a deal with any team around the league he would like to join after cut lose
by Colts.
The possibility of Manning’s release by Indianapolis Colts has gained firm grounds and in the face of this likelihood a number of teams have expressed their interests, respectively, to hire him into theirs sides.
Titans’ fans have expressed similar hopes and launched a full-fledged campaign insisting for the player’s homecoming.
The campaign includes a purpose-developed website and soliciting of billboards, carrying messages and slogans to convince Peyton Manning to reconsider playing at the Tennessee where had played college league football.
