Tennessee Titans say QB Matt Hasselbeck replaces Jake Locker vs Pittsburgh Steelers – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have confirmed another opportunity to former offence leader quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on the starting line when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers from American Football Conference (AFC) North division this Thursday (Oct. 11).
Coach Mike Munchak said the first-year offence leader QB Jake Locker is still not hundred percent from a separated shoulder and therefore will be out for the second straight game this week.
He did not play this Sunday and Hasselbeck performed at his position as a starter, although the change of leaders did not end the misfortune for the Titans as they lost fourth game of the season.
Locker hurt his shoulder in first quarter of the game before last week and even then it was Hasselbeck who had the opportunity to lead the offence for a majority of the game time.
Although Locker’s injury was not described to be a serious one, surprisingly he has taken rather a lengthy period while recovering from it.
It nevertheless is a good opportunity for the team to try their former offence leader at his old position once again to clear the air, because the failings in initial couple of games by Locker had created an impression that Hasselbeck could have done better
had he been allowed on the starting line.
Both players challenged each other in the quarterbacks’ competition during the preseason phase and it was Locker who ended up winning the role for the first time.
He has led the team to only win of the season and has twice suffered the same shoulder injury – first in the opening game and then in the third one.
Overall, he is yet to make an impression on the field as the performance given by him so far can safely be described as average. The team needs a far better output from him to come out of the looming gloom they have fallen into since the start of the season.
Mike Munchak is into second year with the team and this season’s run has disappointed him, especially when he was able to salvage them from an even more miserable position a year earlier.
The Titans had finished the 2011 season with 9-7 and just fell short of going through to the playoffs, and this year’s story so far is written on a poor script. With about 11 more games to go, the team must to better to improve their standing in the American
Football Conference (AFC) South division.
