Tennessee Titans see rookie WR Kendall Wright as starter in Kenny Britt absence – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans expect rookie wide receiver Kendall Wright to assume a greater role in their offence as the player is all cleared after signing a four-year contract to hit training camp, which is already underway.
Kendall has been given a four-year, $8.2 million contract. This includes $4.4 million signing bonus. With the deal agreed, the player is due at training camp soon.
While the Titans’ starting receiver Kenny Britt faces some health and legal issues, the team hopes to fill the void with the presence of the rookie, most probably on the starting line.
Britt has had about three surgeries since last year and is yet to report his recovery and fitness. He has now been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and will be required to clear physical/contact on his return from the injuries.
Lately, Britt has landed himself in another trouble – the arrest by police on a driving under influence (DUI) charge. He is accused of attempting to drive through an army establishment and faces the court now.
The absence of the veteran gives the rookie a rare opportunity to prove his credentials as a starting receiver. It is to be seen how he comes up to the challenge. It is definite that he will get chances on the starting line.
Even if Britt is through all issues quickly, he is set to miss at least a couple of games in the regular season, which will start in September this year. In addition to the court, the receiver (Britt) is on the risk of a disciplinary action from the league
office over his conduct that has come in contravention of the league’s discipline rules.
The Titans are hopeful of Kendall to effectively replace the veteran. The player himself has also sounded to be very much ready and up to the task. The contract matter was the only worry that had been lingering for him until recently. Not anymore.
Wright’s deal has almost wrapped up the rookies signing process. All draft players but Jacksonville Jaguars’ troubled WR Justin Blackmon, who was selected off the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft in April, are under contract now. Blackmon, too,
is reportedly in negotiations with the team and can expect a contract any time soon.
