Tennessee Titans seek miraculous win over New England Patriots in season opener – NFL Preview
The Tennessee Titans will host the New England Patriots for regular season opener this Sunday, attempting to settle the score of humiliating 0-59 defeat they were inflicted on by quarterback Tom Brady-led Patriots about three years ago in 2009.
Apparently, the team is hopeful of doing so, and second-year coach Mike Munchak has done some work with the past game results on his mind. Although some of the players think they have moved away from that mind-blowing loss, pressure of win is very much on
them.
QB Jake Locker, who performed rather well during one-time opportunity last season and courtesy of that performance won the leadership role this year, will be crucial to Titans’ chances this weekend.
Although Jake’s rating is not as strong as Brady’s, he is well capable of giving a winning performance during any game. The Titans, who were unfortunate to have missed a strongly emerged playoff opportunity last year, made an impressive start to the preseason
phase.
It is going to be second year of coach Mike Munchak with the Titans and he after salvaging the team from 6-10 record a season earlier to 9-7 last year remains hopeful of progressing further this season. In addition to Jake the team might also try out Matt
Hasselbeck on the starting line. The latter lost the leadership role to Jake in the preseason but remains a highly capable player.
The Patriots do not have only the historical record favouring them, they are better built at certain positions.
Although it is going to be really tough for the Titans to beat Patriots, they will definitely have a go against them and can expect a positive result. If the Titans are able to put up a strong show the game can be expected to be very competitive and could
possibly head to a close finish.
It is pertinent to mention that the Titans have not gone through any major change at any position this season, although there was an interest and talk by owner Bud Adams about exploring hiring of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Even
that effort was unsuccessful, and the team is heading to the new season start with almost same old outlook.
Some commentators see the Titans having a chance for victory over the Patriots, but they confirm odds in favour of their visitors in the current situation.
