Tennessee Titans sign former Oakland Raiders’ linebacker Kamerion Wimbley on multiyear deal-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans having remained busy around the prospects of signing quarterback, Peyton Manning, a week earlier, are now back to focusing on building the squad at other positions.
As of the latest, the team is reported to have signed former Oakland Raiders’ linebacker, Kamerion Wimbley, to a multiyear deal.
The terms of the deal including the tenure and value were not available immediately.
Titans are said to be thin in pass rush and Wimbley is expected to play at the position of defensive end to fill that void.
Wimbley’s agent, Joe Linda, who confirmed the breakthrough in the talks between his client and the team, said that the player was happy over the outcome of joining Titans.
Linda said:
"Kamerion is very excited to become a Titan. He cancelled two other trips and was really impressed with Coach (Mike) Munchak."
The agent did not offer any further comments and refrained from releasing the details of the contract. The player’s arrival to Tennessee has also been confirmed by Titans.
Mike Munchak, Titans’ coach, has come out with the approval of the player’s performance.
Munchak said:
“Kamerion has been a very productive player in this league and is a good pro. On passing downs over the last few years, he has played with his hand down in Oakland and he will play full-time at defensive end for us. I feel like he is coming into the best
years of his career and his skills will help us pressure the passer."
Wimbley was released by Raiders on March 16, 2012. Unfortunate for the player, he was into first year of his $48 million, five-year deal and released by the team.
His release helped Raiders to avoid $4.5 million roster bonus payment to the player, which was due by Sunday, March 18, 2012.
In addition, the player was due to get another $13 million in the guaranteed money.
The linebacker has a record of 42.5 sacks in his career.
The Tennessee Titans, while recovering from the poor performance a year earlier, finished at 9-7 (nine wins and seven losses) in the last National Football League (NFL) season.
