Tennessee Titans through to signing rookies, land deals to Taylor Thompson, Scott Solomon -NFL News
The Tennessee Titans are almost done with signing of contracts with their rookies, with only one draft player left to be locked in, as of Wednesday, May 23.
Scott Solomon, the rookie defensive end and Taylor Thompson, the tight end, have signed deals with Titans. Both players were selected in fifth and seventh round respectively of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28.
Terms of either of the players’ contracts have not been made public by any of the concerned stakeholders. This includes value and tenure of their deals.
Signing of the new defensive players is very much in line with the team’s aims of strengthening their defence, which was seen performing below the mark during the 2011 season.
Titans’ management has already spoken of its desire of seeing linebackers and other defensive players going harder and faster after quarterbacks. The team particularly wants to see more sacks being produced next season.
Both new signees are going to be strategically used to achieve the team’s desired targets. They are coming out of the college league with a noticeable form and Titans have set great hopes on them to help their cause on the defensive positions.
The team had to move up 10 spots to claim Thomson off the market. He started 43 games in the college league and is rated to be a player of rich talent with potential of performing even better in the pro league.
His college league record consists of 18 sacks and 139 tackles. The player himself has remained silent over his pro league prospects and his own targets.
Meanwhile, Solomon, who played four consecutive seasons of the college league, is coming out with the record of 24 sacks. He too did not have anything to say about his pro career yet.
After signing of these two players, Titans are almost done with their signings of respective rookies. They have receiver, Kendall Wright, the only player yet to be given a contract. He expects to be signed in a couple of days.
