Yes it's a good quote and very true. People use the fact that "they are only being honest" as an excuse to be rude and unkind.

"You have to be cruel to be kind."  in the same way,  hurtful "friends " are fully aware that they are being cruel but they excuse themselves by claiming they are just being truthful.

This is a subterfuge. it is a criticism intentionally meant to hurt.

Yes. Those who 'tell it like it is' and are 'just saying what they feel' are usually selfish, self-centered, and yes, cruel. Knowing when to stay silent is a much finer art than spewing out whatever c**p comes to mind at the moment.

No. The word "all" is what puts me off. Not all cruel people are cruel because they have no tact.

We describe them as "cruel" b/c they like to inflict pain/suffering on others; not all of them do it through words or claim to be "frank".

And geez, not all truths inflict pain.

I'm not saying the quote doesn't make sense; just that it's too much.
