Tennis ATP World Tour doubles: Christopher-Troicki duo wins first doubles crown
Serbian- German duo Viktor Troicki and Christopher Kas captured their first ATP World Tour doubles crown on Sunday at the PTT Thailand Open Men’s competition with a two-setter victory over Jurgen Melzer and Jonathan Erlich in the title battle of the ATP
World Tour 250 hard-court tennis championship in Bangkok. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
The unseeded contenders, who are both coached by Jan de Witt, took a lead of 4-0 in their first final together and, despite missing one of the service breaks during the eight game, did well to secure a lead of one set. The pair then broke Erlich’s serve
during the fifth game of the decisive set and went on to record win in only over an hour on Sunday.
“It was a difficult match, especially at the end, I was choking a bit and luckily my partner helped us out. This is my first doubles title and it feels great,” said Viktor, who was competing in his first ATP World Tour doubles title battle one year after
advancing the singles final in Bangkok.
Christopher, who improved to a career record of 3-8 lifetime in ATP World Tour finals said, “It has been a great week. For me it is my first title outside of Germany. Viktor and I became good friends over the past few years, sharing a coach, so it’s really
nice to win with him. He played unbelievably all week, never facing a break point on his serve in the whole tournament. Now we will try and keep the momentum for Tokyo.”
The 30-year-old Christopher captured his first two ATP World Tour trophies in Stuttgart back in 2008 and Halle last year, both times teaming compatriot player Philipp Kohlschreiber. He was contesting in his second ATP World Tour final of the year after ending
as finalist in Stuttgart with along with Philipp Petzschner.
Israeli Erlich was looking to capture the Bangkok crown on the third occasion, having won the title back in 2003 and 2006 along with Andy Ram. Jurgen from Austria, who will contest at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals next month with his routine partner
Petzschner, dropped to a record of 8-13 in doubles finals.
