Question:

Tennis Bicep Injury?

Recently, (about 2 months ago) I've developed a slight injury on the inner side of my bicep. It goes from slightly above the inner elbow to almost my armpit. Also, a bit on my outside lower shoulder region.

I believe it started due to a 5 day week of intense training. Also, i've been able to isolate the injury to being directly related to my service. Also, it may not be my stroke but instead the use of the very stiff puredrive racket w/ pro Hurricane (not tour) strings which bite a lot.

The pain after a good match w/ hard serves lasts 1-2 days depeding on how many matches.

2 months go it didn't come every time. Now it comes every time. And i have to take Ibuprofen to play (400mg), however w/ it i plan painlessly.

The pain isn't very sharp but it resonates. Feels like someone dead-armed you on the inner side of your bicep.

Suggestions on how to solve this? I haven't taken a break longer than 1 week on tennis yet...

Maybe new stringing combination? New type of serve? stretches?

  1. hit the weights and work out your shoulder. it helped me. take the ibuprofen, its not hurting you. i would also try a cortizone shot.

  2. Ibuprofen is a bad idea ... you mask the pain .... and may further injure your arm .... and prolong your "sit out" time due to serious injury .... consult a physician and go from there ... if u dont want to do that .... sit out for several weeks and rest your arm ... a physical therapist may be able to give u a plan of action to strengthen your arm without hurting it ... making it less likely for repeat injuries

  3. Wow, that sounds pretty bad. I sometimes over strain my shoulder/arm and it doesn't sound as bad as yours.  You should rest it for sure, and try to get a massage on it.  It takes 2 weeks to make sure you're up to par. If you do play, take Ibuprofen.  Also, watch how your arm is when you use your comp. Are you lifting your shoulder up when you mouse? things like that, bec it can affect your tennis arm. Try to use your opposite arm as much as possible.

I'm worried because I have 3 grueling tournies coming up next week, and my shoulder is definitely strained already. I shouldn't play this week, but I already promised. So... I might s***w up my arm and can't play for 2 weeks later.

Imagine what the pros go through!!
