Tennis Breaking News: Andy Roddick and Viktor Troicki breeze into quarters at 2010 Japan Open
The second seed, Andy Roddick from United States of America got the better of Jeremy Chardy of France in two sets at the 2010 Rakuten Japan Open Men’s competition on Thursday. Roddick, as a result of this victory, has reached the quarter final round in Tokyo.
The twenty eight year old Andy won eighty one percent of his service points and converted nine break point chances to outlast his French foe. The final match score was 6-4, 7-6(4) as the clash concluded in one hour and thirty two minutes.
Roddick, while commenting on his opponent’s game after the match, said, “Chardy is always dangerous because he plays high-risk tennis but I felt more assured when I forced him into longer rallies.”
The American, who is contesting his first ATP championship since his fall in the second round of U.S Open, blasted a total of five aces in his today’s match held at the Japanese capital.
With this, Roddick has advanced to his ninth quarter in fourteen tour level championships and thus extended his ATP World Tour's best hard surface record to 36-8, this year.
Two years back in 2008, he had reached the semi final round, in his first appearance at Japan Open, but he was eventually defeated by Tomas Berdych there.
Jeremy, who is ranked world no. sixty by the Association of tennis professionals, fired six aces but still couldn't match the consistency of his opponent’s serve at any stage of the match. The twenty three year old, as a result of this loss, has dropped
to a match record of 24-26 on the season.
Meanwhile, Viktor Troicki of Serbia battled back from a deficit of 2-5 in the decisive set to thrash out another Barclays ATP World Tour Finals' hopeful, Jurgen Melzer of Austria in three sets. The final match score was 7-6(7), 3-6, 7-6(3) while the clash
concluded in two hours and twenty two minutes. The world no. fifty-four Viktor hit eighteen aces to get past the fourth seed Jurgen, thus confirming his spot in the quarters.
It also ended his three clash losing streak versus the Austrian, who is attempting to register his name as the first contender since Emilio Sanchez back in 1990 to successfully qualify for the singles and doubles at the year ending tournaments. Jurgen will
team up with Philipp Petzschner next month in London.
