Tennis Breaking News: Serena Williams, back to the practice courts
The world number one tennis player from the women’s side, Serena Williams is once again back on the practice court after her foot surgery that didn’t allow the American to contest at the United States Open tennis tournament this year in New York.
The 28-year-old Williams played her last tournament in Wimbledon, where she successfully managed to reach the final and eventually won the title after getting the better of her Russian tennis foe, Vera Zvonareva in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2. The American won the grass court Grand Slam title without dropping a single set in all her seven clashes of the championship.
Vera after being defeated at the hands of Serena said that Williams’ serve is what actually made the difference in the end. After the 2010 Wimbledon championship, Martina Navratilova while commenting on Serena said that, “she is in the top five of all-time women tennis players in the history. It is not about the number of major trophies or tournament victories, it is actually the level of your game and class that differentiates you from the rest and Williams definitely has that class and talent in her without any question.”
Billie Jean King also commenting on Williams’ game said that she has emerged as an improved player over the last few seasons and it will definitely help her stay here for long.
The Florida resident said that she is not sure when she will play her next competition on the tour; however, she has plans to contest at the Fed Cup, which is going to start in November this year in Italy.
The right-handed American injured her foot on a broken glass in a hotel after grabbing the grass court Grand Slam title at the All England Club.
However, the good news for the fans of the 2010 Wimbledon champion is that she is back on the courts and moving quite comfortably at the moment.
“I am feeling quite better now. However, I have still not completely recovered,” Williams told the reporters.
She further added that she doesn’t need to do anything extra to cover her injured foot on the practice court other than some tape.
The top-ranked American tennis player shared her views in a news conference, while talking about the charitable foundation that launched a line of sunscreens and other products, which are particularly significant for the athletes during their play.
