Tennis Clothing 2010: “The Professionals dress to kill”
As Tennis Grand Slams started earlier this year, the striving players prepared to prove themselves on court. However, the vigorous training only paid off for some. While athletes concentrate on their performances, it is their sponsors that are responsible for their general appearance and presentation in terms of their attire.
January 18th 2010, marked the beginning of the first grand slam of the year. The Australian Open brought together players from all over the world and was played at the famous Melbourne Park.  Swiss Maestro “Roger Federer” lifted the Men’s singles cup in a pair of white Nike shorts that went with a sky-blue collared t-shirt. The sportsman also wore a headband with a Nike “swoosh” across it. Apart from Federer’s sky-blue wrist band, his white Nike tennis shoes and basic socks of the same colour completed his Aussie Open look.
Britain’s “Andy Murray”, who faced defeat at the hands of the “Fed Express” in three straight sets, is currently endorsed by Adidas. Murray’s apparel was similar to that of Federer’s. Along with his white Adidas t-shirt with a blue trail starting from his upper waist that went up to his sleeves, Andy wore a white pair of shorts, two white wristbands and a blue and white contrasted pair of tennis shoes.
Serena Williams wore a thigh high yellow Nike outfit as she threw her racquet up in the air to celebrate her 2010 Australian Open Women’s single title. She also wore a pendant amongst her two white Nike wristbands and yellow lined, white Nike tennis shoes. Notably fond of dressing up, the younger William dangled her earrings and bore a white Nike headband with a blue swoosh on it. Belgian sportswoman, Justine Henin faced a 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2 defeat in a white Adidas skirt that was paired with a blue t-shirt with white striped sleeves. Her white Adidas tennis shoes with black stripes were matched with her white cap that featured the Adidas logo in black on it.
The month of May gave rise to the second grand slam of the year. The 109th French Open kicked off at “Stade Roland Garros” on the 23rd of the month. Sweden’s Robin Soderling spoke to the crowd in his white round collared Lotus t-shirt upon losing the Men’s singles final. His t-shirt had streaks of blue and black on it to match his black shorts with blue lining. Soderling wore a pair of Lotus socks as well as tennis shoes. Nadal fist pumped his straight set win in a pair of white Nike shorts that went with his beautifully coloured t-shirt. With a white swoosh across his chest, the King of Clay wore a sea green and a white wrist band on each arm. However, Nadal’s customized grey shoes with the number of his French Open wins embossed on them stood out the most.
Italy’s Francesca Schiavone exhibited a white t-shirt with a floral print along with her orange lined white tennis shoes that were worn under a plain white skirt. Francesca beat Australia’s Lacoste endorsed athlete Samantha Stosur 6-4 and 7-6 in the 2010 Australian Open Women’s final. The runner-up waved to the audience carrying off a royal blue Lacoste outfit with her white Lacoste tennis shoes and cap.
The “England Lawn and Racquet Tennis Club” was prepared for the 2010 Wimbledon Tennis Championship which started on the 21st of June. 2010 was a prestigious year for England as Queen Elizabeth II attended a match on the 24th of June after thirty long years.
Obeying the code, Rafael Nadal picked up his second grand slam title of the year in a white Nike jacket with a striking orange swoosh to the left of it. Rafa wore a white ‘V’ necked t-shirt with orange lining around the collar along with a white Nike headband, white socks and white Nike tennis shoes collectively. The enraged Czech athlete Tomas Berdych lost 6-3, 7-5 and 6-4 to the Spaniard in an all white Nike outfit with hints of black on it.
The “little” William sister also received her second title of the year upon thrashing Russia’s Vera Zvonareva in straight sets. Serena bore a white Nike outfit with pink lining right above the waist. Her comparatively thinner white Nike headband, with a small pink swoosh on it, went well with her pink streaked white tennis shoes.  Williams also wore pink shorts and accepted the trophy in a stylish white Nike jacket. Zvanovera faced annihilation in a white dress with hints of blue and yellow in it. She also wore a white cap and for obvious reasons, a pair of plain white tennis shoes.
The Nike endorsed professionals seem to have done better than the Adidas supported ones this year. So far it has been a treat to watch the athletes play the grand slams in style. One will however, have to wait and see what their sponsors have in store for the last grand slam of the year.
