World number one, Roger Federer, survived the onslaught of the ninth ranked Argentine, Juan Martin Del Potro, to reach his maiden final showdown at the London Olympics. He lost the opening set 3-6, 7-6(5), 19-17.
Andy Murray knocks-out Novak Djokovic
World number four, Andy Murray, stunned the second seed Serb, Novak Djokovic, in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 to book a spot in the final of the London Olympics.
Roger Federer squares off against Andy Murray on Sunday for a gold medal shot whilst the bronze medal match between Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro will be contested on Saturday.
Women’s Singles
Serena Williams dispatches Victoria Azarenka
Former world number one, Serena Williams, drove out the top seed Belarusian, Victoria Azarenka, in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to qualify for the final.
Maria Sharapova plonks Maria Kirilenko
World number three, Maria Sharapova, outplayed her 14th seed compatriot, Maria Kirilenko, in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to book a spot in a final showdown.
Williams will face Sharapova for a gold medal battle.
Azarenka will look to clinch bronze medal in a clash against Maria Kirilenko.
Both matches will be played on Saturday.
Men’s Doubles
Michael Llodra/ Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beats David Ferrer/ Feliciano Lopez
The French team of Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dispatched the Spanish duo, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez, in an epic three-setter 6-3, 4-6, 18-16.
Bryan Brothers ousts Julien Benneteau/ Richard Gasquet
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan from American dumped Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet of France in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Bryan brothers will lock horns with French duo of Tsonga and Llodra for a gold medal battle.
Bronze medal contest will be between David Ferrer/ Feliciano Lopez and Julian Benneteau/Richard Gasquet.
Women’s Doubles
Liezel Huber/ Lisa Raymond bows out to Hlavackova/ Lucie Hradecka
Top seeded American team, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, were stunned by the Czech duo, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka. It was straight sets 6-1, 7-6(2) victory for the Czech.
Serena Williams/Venus Williams vs. Maria Kirilenko/Nadia Petrova (postponed)
Other semi-final that was scheduled to be contested between Serena Williams/Venus Williams and Maria Kirilenko/Nadia Petrova was postponed and will be played on Saturday and ample break will be given to the winners to prepare for
the final clash on the same eve.
