Tennis HP Open Competition: Samantha Stosur storms past her opponent in the opening match
Just a year ago, Australian tennis star Samantha Stosur had lost all five of her career finals. She then travelled all the way to Osaka for taking part in the HP Open Competition and changed her defeats into victories, winning her first crown. The Aussie
once again made a winning start this year at the tournament on Monday.
The 26-year-old Stosur is currently ranked number eight in the world by the Women tennis Association. The top seed did well in her opening match of the HP Open on Monday as she got past her Japanese tennis foe, Sachie Ishizu in a two-setter clash. The final
match score was 6-0, 6-3.
The Queensland resident won the opening set in just twenty four minutes in Osaka and looked quite confident right from the start of the play against Sachie Ishizu of Japan.
The former world number five, Samantha got the better of Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark and Francesca Schiavone in back-to-back clashes in the final four and title battle to grab her first career crown back in 2009.
Stosur after the match while commenting on her title victory said that she is extremely glad and happy to end the year with a title victory and is hoping to continue her performance in order to reach the top ten in the WTA rankings list.
"I am extremely pleased to grab my first crown after defeating in five previous finals. It has been a personal target for a while, so I am happy to have achieved it and it is the ideal way to finish my year in singles. My next aim is to reach the top ten,
for which I would need to play like today every day,” said the right hander after her last year’s victory in Osaka.
The Australian is definitely attempting to once again perform brilliantly in this season’s Osaka tournament. The world number eight is off to an ideal start in quest for defending her title at HP Open.
In other action, the fourth seed Maria Kirilenko also progressed on the first day of the International-level championship, defeating her Japanese tennis foe, Kurumi Nara in a time period of fifty six minutes on Monday. The final match score was 6-1, 6-0.
Kurumi held serve at love during the fifth game of the clash; it would be her only time getting on the board versus the Russian, who currently owns a total of five crowns so far in her career.
