Question:

Tennis Match Play?

I play competitive tennis for a club team and I consider myself pretty good during my practices, lessons, and warmups. However, when it comes to playing a match I always freeze up, tighten up, and play safe. What can I do to try to play like I do in practice during my matches?! Help it's so frustrating!

  1. i'm the same way. maybe when your practicing and such, you could try to imagine that you are playing a match, but you'd still be playing like you do in practices, that way when you have a real match you wont play as safe, if that made any sense at all. or, just try not to make it seem as such a big deal, pretend you are at practice or a warm-up.

  2. you must learn how to lose before you can win!

i think you must have a lot of pride about your form and image that you are so self-consious and afraid to lose, am i right?

you need to treat every match as your practice sessions, tell yourself you are going to lose a lot of games before you start winning, so nothing is in a way to make that swing you do so well during the practice.

i have been in your position before, beleive me, once you start swinging and have a few good laugh and really enjoy the competition, you will open up and not look back.

    good luck

whether you loose or win it doesn't matters so much you tried it matters more .NOW buck up man

  3. RELAX, thats the number one problem

  4. you must learn how to lose before you can win! (i heard that from someone...)

i have been in your shoe before, trust me, once you start swinging and have a few good laugh and really enjoy the competition, you will open up and not look back.

  5. What you should do is let loose. I experience the same in the past, I always play safe and end up losing a lot. I just ease up and played. you should do the same.

  6. The only thing i can say is imagine your in training and try and do all the things you do in training, im the same like you but the other way around im not so good at practice but im good in matches. If it is in front of a crowd then i see your point but just focus on the game and focus on the person your playing and pretend there is no crowd and im sure you'll do well.

P.S Try to get most of the opening points and you'll be fine
