Tennis News: Juan Martin Del Potro has begun training once again
Born on September 23, 1988, in the city of Tandil, the professional tennis player from Argentina, Juan Martin Del Potro, is currently ranked number seven in the world by ATP. The right-handed tennis player (who also achieved the honour of being the highest-ranked Argentine) made his way into the top ten ATP world rankings list back in 2008 during the month of October.
As far as the playing style of Juan Martin Del Potro is concerned, he is famously known as an offensive baseline player with a powerful serve and effective ground strokes. The forehand shot of twenty-one year old Martin is considered one of his best assets, as he is capable of generating speeds over 100 mph. Moreover, Del also possesses a highly accurate and strong two-handed backhand. In spite of his 1.98 meters tall height, Del Potro is known as one of the best movers from the men’s side as he is able to move equally well on all sorts of surfaces including the hard, grass as well as clay court. His height supports him in hitting quick first serves as well as allows him to return bouncy spins with a greater power of force.
As far as his favourite surfaces are concerned, clay along with the hard courts are the most darling surfaces of Del Potro. His game on grass, however, needs polishing, as that is where his height factor acts as a major hindrance.
Juan Martin Del Potro is once again back in the training camp after a long injury break, and as a result has raised the expectations of his admirers ahead of the upcoming US Open championship at Flushing Meadows, Queens, NY, towards the end of this month.
The Tandil resident has been out of the news since the hard court Australian Open competition in January, after going through a surgical treatment on his right wrist. However, he still managed to get a spot in the list of players contesting at the United States Open championship (he is the defending champion) starting from the 30th of this month.
Despite the fact that the 21-year old player denied the news that he was out on the tennis court for practice sessions last month, a status update (‘tweet’) on his Twitter account highlighted that the player is back in training ahead of the US Open.
Del wrote: “What a soothing feeling it is to come back and smash a tennis ball, I can tell you it was a little session however I once again held the racquet in my hand."
Del Potro had been facing injury problems since the conclusion of the hard court Australian open Grand Slam championship. His strong showings during the 2009 year improved his rankings to as high as number four in the world by ATP, largely because of his 2009 US Open crown at Flushing Meadows.
Del Potro outplayed the Spanish tennis ace, Rafael Nadal, in the semifinal battle of the US Open tournament and made his way into the final round. In his final clash, Del Potro met the Swiss tennis master, Roger Federer, and successfully managed to knock him down in a total of five sets and thus grabbed the US Open trophy.
After the fourth Grand Slam event of the season, Del Potro reached the final of the Barclays ATP World Tour held in London; however, he was defeated by Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-4.
As far as the Thailand Open competition is concerned, the Argentinean tennis ace, Juan Martin Del Potro has already confirmed his participation. However, at the moment, the right-handed player is fighting really hard to get back in form prior to the start of the US Open 2010.
