Tennis News: Ryan Harrison all set to compete at New Port
2007 Turned pro, Ryan Harrison is all set to compete in the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, Newport. The tournament which comes after Wimbledon, will take a start from July 4-10, 2011.
The event highlights top 32 ATP world tour players and is being played at the historic grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Director of the tournament Mark L. Stenning said, "As a wild card in Newport last year, Ryan advanced to the quarterfinals and he has consistently posted some outstanding results since then Ryan is definitely a player on the move
and one to watch and we know our fans will enjoy seeing him compete and we look forward to welcoming him back to Newport again this summer."
The eighteen-year old Harrison, raced to a lopsided victory in the third round of BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, last week, beating wild card entrant Milos Raonic of Canada 7-6(1), 4(6), 6(4) to enter the fourth round of BNP
Paribas Open.
The right handed, who was a wild card entrant into the tournament, encountered Roger Federer for the first time at any ATP world tour and managed to drag the world number 2 in a tie-break  situation 7-6(4) in the opening set, before
Swiss Maestro declared success in the final set 6-3.
Following his success at the Indian Wells last week, his South African Airways ATP World ranking has escalated 22 places upward.
Harrison, now ranked world number 130, his career high ranking so far, will be appearing at the Newport Tournament for the second time. His prior performance at the tournament is considered to be his best at any ATP world tour
so far where he reached the quarterfinals beating Santiago Giraldo, before losing to Richard Bloomfield.
The 18-year old Harrison has marked meaningful triumphs since then, defeating Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in the 2010 U.S Open at the first round, before losing to Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round.
He started 2011 tremendously as he won both singles and double titles at the Honolulu Challenger tour. He raced to victory defeating Alex Kuznetsov in straight sets 6–4, 3–6, 6–4. On the other hand, he and partner Travis Rettenmaier
defeated Robert Kendrick and Alex Kuznetsov to clinch the doubles title.
