France in the final of the Davis Cup
The prestigious Davis Cup has finally entered its final stage, with the Serbian team taking on the French.
In the semi-final of the Davis Cup, the Serbs brushed away the Czechs to book for themselves a place in the final. Serbia will now face the French team in the final in what is to be an exciting and challenging affair.
The Serbian team beat Czech Republic 3-2 in the semi final after a long-winded, tough affair. The Czech’s fought hard and gave the Serbs a fair frights in front of their home crowd in Belgrade. At one stage, the Czech Republic
was leading by 2-1 after winning the Saturday’s doubles rubber. However, that loss seemed to galvanise the Serbs and they fought hard and played like never before to achieve the victory in a marvellous manner. This success was overwhelming for many Serbs as
Serbia are now in the Davis Cup final for the first time in their history.
Moreover, the Serbian team now has its most lethal weapon back and chomping at the bit; Novak Djokovic. The world number two missed his tie on Friday after contracting an infection, but recovered fast and thrashed his veteran rival
Tomas Berdych by 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Ultimately, the tie depended on Janko Tipsarevic. Tipsarevic had to defeat Radek Stepanek to confirm Serbia’s place in the finals. Unbeknownst to pressure, Tipsarevic did his job splendidly and hammered his rival pretty convincingly
by 6-0, 7-6, and 6-4 in front of a passionate and exhilarated home crowd.
In the other semi-final of the Davis Cup, the French team seemed a bit too strong for the Argentineans, as they convincingly beat the South Americans 5-0. In the single rubber matches, France’s Gilles Simon played brilliantly and
defeated his Argentinean rival Eduardo Schwank by 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 after a close battle. On the other hand, Frenchmen Arnaud Clement hammered his rival Horacio Zeballos in a two set match by 7-5, 6-1. White washing a good Argentina team has given the French all
the confidence in the world and they’ll be looking to get one hand on the trophy early against the Serbs.
This is the second time France has qualified for the Davis Cup final. The last time the French team reached the final was in 2002. The final of the tournament will undoubtedly be one to watch, as the French have shown their ability to conquer any team while
the Serbs have the greatest weapon; Novak Djokovic. Now the world awaits a new Davis Cup champion.
