Tennis News: Spaniard Rafael Nadal strips down for Armani
Following in the footsteps of English footballer David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Spain's Rafael Nadal is to become the new face of the spring/summer collection by Giorgio Armani. Nadal showcased his six-pack in
a number of black and white photographs which will be appearing on billboards this February. Shot by photographers Marcus Piggott and Mert Alas, Rafa posed topless in a pair of Armani jeans apart from having posed in a pair of white Emporio undies.
Hollywood sensation Megan Fox will be sporting Armani female underwear and denim for the advertisement campaign. Fox, who is already the face of Armani cosmetics, showed off her tattoos in the shoot, one of which was inspired by
Shakespeare's King Lear. The tattoo reads, "We will all laugh at gilded butterflies." In addition, the tattoo on her right shoulder-blade that goes all the way to her ribs says, "Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear
the music."
Nadal is currently in Melbourne participating at the 2011 Australian Open in the Men's Singles category. Seeded no. 1 at the championship, Rafa was opposed by Marcos Daniel of Brazil in the first round match of his draw. Rafa took
the first set 6-0 and was up 5-0 in the second set right before Marcos pulled out of the game due to an injury.
Advancing to the second round, the Spaniard faced qualifier Ryan Sweeting of the United States. Sweeting was beaten 6-2 in the first set, 6-1 in the second set and 6-1 in the deciding third set to be eliminated from the tournament.
Earlier, Sweeting defeated Daniel Gimeno Traver of Spain 6-4, 6-4 and 6-1 to face Rafa in the second round.
Nadal then went going head to head with wild card entrant Bernard Tomic of Australia in the third round of his draw. Tomic made it through after defeating Spain's Feliciano Lopez 7-6, 7-6 and 6-3 in his second round match. Nadal
defeated Tomic 6-2, 7-5 and 6-3 to advance to the fourth round, where he is set to face Croatian Marin Cilic, who is seeded 15th at the Open. Cilic defeated John Isner in a mammoth Round 3 match where the final results were 4-6, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 and
9-7.
