Tennis Open de Moselle & BCR Open Romania: Wednesday Preview
A total of three opening rounds and two second round clashes will be contested on today’s order of play at the Open de Moselle tennis tournament in Metz. The seventh-seeded tennis player Tommy Robredo, who grabbed his only ATP World Tour indoor trophy here
back in 2007 and the 2003 winner Arnaud Clement are on the centre court day session schedule.
The opening singles clash is a first time meeting between a wild card entrant, Thierry Ascione from France and Igor Sijsling.
In the second clash, the Uzbek tennis player Denis Istomin and Robredo will face each other on the very first occasion. Robredo, who has yet to make his way into the final of the ATP World Tour this season, seems to level his match record of 18-19 of the
year. Denis, on the other hand, is looking to advance into his fifth ATP World Tour quarter final clash this season. He also made his way into the final of the New Heaven tennis competition back in August this year.
In the next clash, Lukas Lacko from Slovakia will take on Clement on the very first occasion. Clement, who is participating in Metz for the eighth-time made his debut here, back in 2003 and successfully got the better of Fernando Gonzalez in the title battle.
In the evening, the 2008 finalist Paul Henri Mathieu will meet the 2004 runner-up Richard Gasquet on the sixth occasion. Richard leads the two in-career records with 3-2. Mathieu has triumphed in the last two matches after Richard won the opening three battles.
They faced each other for the first time back in 2005 in Metz in the second round, where Richard prevailed in straight sets.
Paul Henri is attempting to advance into his first ATP World Tour quarter of the year, while Richard, who faced a first round exit, is hoping to reach his seventh quarter final or even better this year.
The top-three seeded players, Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic will be in action on Thursday.
In some other action in Bucharest, the fourth seeded Juan Ignacio Chela from Argentina will play the opening match of the BCR Open Romania versus Simon Greul from Germany on Wednesday.
Juan spent most of 2009 outside the top hundred rankings, however, this season he has done well to be back in the top-sixty and has been performing quite well. In their last meeting, Simon did push Juan to 7-5 third set before breaking down in their only
career meeting, however.
Next up is Bjorn Phau versus Adrian Ungur from Romania, who stunned the seventh-seeded Andreas Seppi in the opening round of the BCR Open Romania on Tuesday, despite Andreas being two points away from win in the second set. Bjorn won their only previous
encounter handily, on the terre battue of the French Open tennis tournament back in 2008.
The third and the final singles clash is going to feature the top-seeded Tobias Kamke from Germany and the last year’s winner Albert Montanes from Spain on Wednesday.
Albert is playing the best tennis of his professional life and is ranked number twenty two in the world by the Association of tennis professionals. In their last encounter, the Spanish tennis ace got the better of Kamke in a total of three sets in Roland
Garros. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2, and 6-1.
On the court number one, the eight-seeded Jeremy Chardy from France will take on a qualifier from Italy, Simone Vagnozzi in a second round clash. On the court number two, the final opening round clash of the BCR Open Romania will take place between Pablo
Cuevas and Pere Riba on Wednesday.
