Tennis Pan Pacific 2010: Victoria Azarenka wins her second round match
The professional tennis player, Victoria Azarenka got past Lucie Safarova in the second round of the Pan Pacific women’s tennis competition on Tuesday in her first singles clash, after breaking down at the United States Open tennis tournament in New York.
The eight seed who received a first round bye was too good for Lucie; missing just four games in a two-setter win over her Czech tennis foe. The final match score was 6-1, 6-3.
Victoria after her today’s victory at the Pan Pacific women’s tennis competition while commenting on her collapse at the year’s final Grand Slam, said that she considers herself a bit unlucky in that match against Gisela Dulko from Argentina.
"Sometimes things happen unfortunately in this way. I cannot look back. I try to forget about it as much as I can, but people still remind me. For me, it is important to move forward,” added Victoria on Tuesday.
Victoria was given an emergency medical treatment for few minutes in New York before being taken away in a wheelchair to the nearby hospital, owing to her condition. Victoria later told that she had fallen in the gym prior to her United States Open match
in New York.
Azarenka is currently ranked number eleven in the world by the Women Tennis Association. She showed no signs of illness in her clash against the world number 30, grabbing a service break in the first game of the match that was concluded after seventy seven
minutes on Tuesday.
"I think it was a very good start for me. I hadn't played for three weeks, so I was a little bit nervous to get into the match and see what I could do. I did pretty well and I'm happy with my game and with the way I moved. My serve was a little bit inconsistent,
but still I think I put a lot of pressure, winning a lot of points," said the 21-year-old Victoria after her today’s victory.
In the next round, Victoria will meet the winner of the clash between Ana Ivanovic from Serbia and eleventh seed French Marion Bartoli.
