Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal may be two of the very best tennis players in the history of the game but there are also some young players on the horizon. These players are optimistic of doing well against the very best in the business and their performances
reflect their talent. They have been doing well and gaining rankings with every tournament they played.
Tobias Kamke won the 2010 ATP World Tour Newcomer of the year. The German has done exceptionally well in the game recently. He said that his performance was also a surprise for him and he could not have expected it in his wildest dreams. He plans to achieve
something every year in similar fashion.
The 24-year-old German was ranked 254th at the start of the year and ended the season at 67th position. He reached the second round at the Roland Garros and the third round at Wimbledon as a qualifier. He also had a very impressive
record at the ATP Challenger Tours this season by winning titles in Granby and Tiburon. He also reached the finals of Baton Rogue and Furth.
Another youngster Richard Berankis, who won the US Open Junior’s title in 2007, has been a player to watch. He was also invited by Roger Federer to a training camp which also indicates that the Swiss has an eye for talent. The 20-year-old is a former junior
number one and a very disciplined player.
Richard began the season with a rank of 319th but ended up in the top 100 by reaching 85th at the end of the year. His performance made him the highest ranked ever Lithuanian player in the history of Tennis. He won two titles at Nottingham
and Helsinki and finished as a runner-up in Vancouver at the ATP Challenger Tour. He also reached the second rounds of Wimbledon and the US Open.
Former Dutch player, Richard Krajicek reckons that Thiemo De Bakker is the best ever talent in Dutch tennis. The 22-year-old had a very good 2010 and broke in the top 50 in April 2010. He defeated the likes of Tsonga and Juan Carlos Ferrero in the Barcelona
Open. He also reached the round of Wimbledon and ended up the season on 43rd.
Alexandr Dolgopolov, son of a former ATP professional Oleksandr claims that he would be eying the number one rank in 2011. At one stage of the year, the Ukrainian declared himself as one of the players to watch in the 2011 season. He has won a single title
in 2010 at Meknes. He also reached the third round of the Roland Garros besides reaching three other quarterfinals in 2010. He ended the season on 48th position and broke into the top 40’s once.
By winning the ATP World Tour in St. Petersburg, Mikhail Kukushkin reached his career best rank of 58th. He said that his next goal in 2011 would be to jump into the top 50. He admitted that his performances in the Grand Slams and the ATP 1000
events are not up to the mark and he will have to improve a lot.
These young, talented players will add to the challenge in the upcoming season and will be looking to maintain their current form.
