Question:

Tennis Serves and forehand?

Today I realized that I suck bad. I've played 1 year of tennis already and I think I've gotten worse. When I serve, I can't even tap it in. It keeps hitting the rim of the racket and doesn't make it to the other side. Same problem when I hit forehands. What can I do to improve my game?

  1. When I am helping someone learn to serve, I often have them start with the racket held upright, the face of the racket facing the service box you are aiming for.  As the ball is thrown up, tilt the racket back just a little, then hit the ball as straight as possible with medium force.  Gravity should pull the ball down into the service box.  Your eyes should be on the ball the whole time, before it hits the racket, while it hits the CENTER of the racket, and afterwards.  As you master this and begin hitting it harder, you can add more backswing for more force.  Then, you can start practing full service technique, starting with the racket in front of your body like you are supposed to.

As for forehands, your best bet is to practice against a wall.  Do you hit the ball flat, or with topspin, or backspin?  All require different strokes.  Practice by holding your racket where it would be when it strikes the ball.  Then, drop a ball in front of it, pull the racket back, and swing and try to hit center.  Practice hitting over and over again against a wall, and you should naturally start hitting the ball in the center of the racket.

keep your eye on the ball.

  2. Practice, practice, practice. Get priavate practice with a nearby coach or go play with your friends. On you serves, make sure you do these simple steps.....

    -Take your time

    - Align the shot

-Throw the ball high in the air

-Hit downwards and hard, swing through.

    Forehands

-Make sure you keep you racket back and swing through to your shoulder.

    -Hit hard.

    -Hit it flat, not upwards.

-try to hit it away from your opponent.

  3. um well hit it more towards the middle of the raquet i dont really know how to explain it. maybe you should try lessons they work wonders :]

  4. eye hand coordination.

stick to it , tennis is the sport of the future

serving , swing up and then through

    forehand , same thing

and remember the first thing i told you

  5. sacrifice everything

and play tennis everyday for at least 4 or 5 hours

and workout for another 3 hours

  6. wait 4 the ball a little bit, in tennis, u have time. just don't rush

  7. Take a few lessons, one on one if possible.

You'll see immediate improvement in your game.

A qualified instructor can teach you the proper form for strokes and serving. Once you know what you're supposed to do, you can practice it and improve your game.

But you'll need to know the proper form first.

  8. Don't forget to follow through on both serve and forehand and get your feet moving because that's a very important part of the game, foot work, for instance look at Nadal.
