Tennis Shanghai Rolex Masters: Andy Murray breezes into the quarters
World number four Andy Murray breezed into the quarter final round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters Men’s singles competition on Thursday after getting the better of Jeremy Chardy in two sets in China. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4. The clash concluded
in a time period of eighty two minutes on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Scott, as a result of this victory, has earned a spot in the season ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, which is going to start from next month. Moreover, the right hander Murray also improved his career record to 3-0 versus
the French tennis player Jeremy Chardy.
The Glasgow-born Murray who turned professional back in 2005 won his 38th match of the season on Thursday. He has so far won a single ATP World Tour trophy in 2010 at the Rogers Cup in Toronto after brushing aside Roger Federer. He was also a
finalist at the Australian Open earlier towards the start of this year.
At the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Murray who achieved the top ten ATP ranking on the very first occasion back in 2007, won his opening round match against Lacko in straight sets. In the second round in Flushing Meadows,
the Scott once again did well to triumph in a rain-delayed clash against Dustin Brown. The London-resident in his third round encounter, however, was brushed aside by Stanislas Wawrinka and thus bundled out of the event in four sets. Murray, however, didn’t
look comfortable throughout his third round battle in New York as he called the trainer on two occasions during the match.
The right hander has so far successfully made his way into a total of two Grand Slam finals in his career at the United States Open back in 2008 and the Australian Open, falling down on both occasions at the hands of 29-year-old Roger Federer from Switzerland.
Murray, after winning his today’s battle added ninety points to his season to date ATP Ranking and has joined Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic as well as Roger Federer at the eight man field of the season ending event. A total of four positions are still up
for grabs with only under five weeks left in the Barclays event in London.
