Question:

Tennis Shot Tips / Advice?

I'm trying to add to create a variety of different shots in my "tennis game arsenal". There's one shot that I've been really struggling to do. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, any advice given would be appreciated.

The shot (to me) is a combination of topspin and sidespin. It would be a dream to have it on both wings, but I would just like to be able to do it on my forehand side. I can try to give a basic description of the shot. If the player is a righty, they hit the ball on the forehand side cross-court with topspin. When the ball hits the ground, it not only bounces up (due to topspin I assume), but it it also bounces even more to the left (due to sidespin I assume).

I found two video clips on youtube that incorporate this shot.

Conchita Martinez uses this shot around 35 seconds into the clip.

Rafael Nadal uses this shot three times at about 1:10.

  1. i saw the one with nadal and that that shot doesnt contain any slice or side spin as u call it. he angled the ball and put so much top spin that the ball curves. if u see, a lot of ppl do shots like that, u prob do them without knowing them

  2. Brush up on outside of the ball. Obviously, it won't be as spectacular as the pros, they generate incredible racquet head speed and topspin, but try it.

  3. Well when you brush up the back of the ball for the topspin

there is also forward momentum of the racket that causes side spin as well.

So that when the ball is lofted and then bounces because of the topspin, also imparted is the side spin, which causes the ball to bounce sideways.

    How do you achieve this

    up

    sideways

    forwards.
