World number 5, Swede Robin Soderling has confirmed that he has parted ways with Coach Magnus Norman.
Former World no. 2 Magnus helped Soderling break into the World top ten apart from helping him reach two grand slam finals and clinching his first ever Masters title, the 2010 BNP Paribas Masters Men's singles title.
Apparently, Norman has decided that he wants to take out time to focus on his 'personal life' and work on certain other projects which is why the former professional will not be coaching Robin as far as the 2011 season is concerned.
However, Magnus nevertheless stated that the two would remain friends. " It would have been fun and exciting to continue, but I have reached a point in my career where I need a coach who can put in the time necessary, and focus 100% on my tennis. Which is
why I still feel as if this is the right decision for us both, and we part as good friends," stated Soderling.
Additionally, Magnus went on to say, "I look back on a fun and fantastic 26-month-long period of time together with Robin. I want to thank Robin for the faith he has had in me to take care of his career, a responsibility I have tried to manage in the best
way possible."
In the year 2009, Soderling made it through to his first ever grand slam final. The Swede was opposed by Roger Federer of Switzerland in the championship final of the French Open in the Men's singles category. He was thrashed 6-1, 7-6, and 6-4 by his the
Swiss.
A year down the line, Robin faced Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2010 French Open. Nadal defeated Soderling 6-2, 6-4 and 6-4 to clinch the championship title. Nevertheless, he came out victorious at the 2010 BNP Paribas Masters, beating Frenchman
Gael Monfils 6-1 and 7-6 to bag his first ever Masters title. Soderling is furthermore, expected to name his new coach soon.
