Tennis Special Edition: Who will be the next prominent name in the women’s tennis?
Accept it or not, it is a fact that the William sisters are getting old and their dominating period is about to be over soon, and perhaps would have been over if the two Belgians never announced their retirement. What the world is waiting for now is the
new dominant force that every era had to assist for the transition of the game. When the former top-ranked tennis player, Martina Navratilova was getting older, a fresh pair of ladies arrived on the tennis scene to dominate during that period, called Monica
Seles and Steffi Graff. When the two of them started to get old, another rising tennis star, Martina Hingis came to the limelight as the new prominent figure in the game of women’s tennis. After Hingis, we had the Williams sisters show up to make sure that
the Swiss tennis player was in the history, and a fresh power game was on the horizon. Everyone predicted dominance of young Russians; however, they turned out to be too inaccurate.
Where do we go from here onwards? There are very few names in the top of the Women Tennis Association at the moment. These players are still young and likely to dominate in the future. Here are the few names that are likely to take over the future of the
women’s tennis.
1. Caroline Wozniacki
She is perhaps the best hope of all. The Danish tennis star has a lethal combination of personality, looks and aptitude that already have her as one of the crowd favourites on the tour. In spite of the fact that the Dane has not won the United States Open
tennis tournament, however, the reason for optimism is that she has performed extremely well throughout the season 2010, and her overall game has also improved to a great extent. She captured a total of four singles trophies this season, including the summer
series and reached at least the round of sixteen in every single major tournament. Her improved serve has also worked wonders for her in her victories this season and is nearly women’s version of Nadal in terms of her class to play defence and utilize pace.
Therefore, Caroline has the brightest chances of all on the tour to dominate in the future, which is well supported by her young age of twenty years as well. The girl definitely has the potential to be the best and a multiple major champion provided that she
remains mentally tough while playing on the court.
2. Agnieszka Radwanska
The 21-year-old native of Poland did extremely well to reach the top ten in the world back in 2008; however, in the previous two seasons she has unfortunately stayed at the same position and failed to advance to the later stages of any major event besides
Wimbledon, where she does quite well. Her reason for optimism is that the girl is still very young and has been playing quite well for the last few seasons. She definitely has the potential to progress in the semi-final round of the next major event. She probably
won't be a multiple major champion, however, with time could grab one or two titles which are quite enough for a reasonably successful professional life.
3. Victoria Azarenka
The 21-year-old Victoria is quite similar to Agnieszka. She had a superb 2009 year, as she jumped into number seven in the world as a result of her quarter-final runs in a variety of competitions, and thus proved her sporting talent. She, however, looked
to take a step back this season without any apparent reason. Her ranking is still encouraging; Victoria is currently ranked number eleven in the world by the Women Tennis Association. She didn’t do anything notable since her Australian Open quarter final appearance
during the start of the season. Victoria, however, did capture a single trophy this year.
Her reason for optimism here is that the flair is off course there, and all she needs to do is to intelligently utilize it in the best possible way at the right time. She is probably going to have a very similar professional life as that of Aggie Radwanska,
however according to some of the experts she is a little more talented, and thus could surpass her with more major trophies in the future.
So, these are the top of the bright tennis stars on the women’s side who are likely to dominate in the next couple of years, provided that they continue to progress and improve all aspects of their game.
