Tennis Special Report: “ATP should introduce a six week break” says Swiss tennis maestro Federer
The twenty nine years old Swiss former world number one Roger Federer has recommended that the Association of Tennis Professionals should set up a break of at least six weeks for the tennis players to protect them from mental and physical exhaustion.
The current world number two Swiss tennis legend expressed his thoughts and feelings in a very recent interview and has told the media that some of the tennis players are playing more than their capacity and this thing is affecting their outcome pretty harshly.
The Sixteen time Grand Slam winner Federer said that there should be an off season of tennis to rest the players and keep them mentally and physically fit throughout the year. Roger told the media that playing more than the capacity is something which damages
the player’s performance and fitness.
Currently there are four weeks of break in the tennis events for the players but Federer is concerned with the view that four weeks are not enough and the Tennis Association should increase the span of break to at least six weeks.
Roger Federer is considered as one of the greatest players in the history of tennis and his recommendations cannot be taken lightly. The Swiss star told the media about his busy schedule of tennis and said that he plays tennis throughout the year and sometimes
it becomes difficult for him to keep himself fit and fresh throughout the season. He said that he needs a sensible reason to get some time off from the world of tennis.
Currently the world number two Federer is participating in the Paris Masters tennis tournaments. It is to be remembered that the current world number one tennis star Rafael Nadal and the twenty five years old French veteran Jo Wilfried Tsonga are suffering
from injuries and therefore not been able to compete in any of the tennis tournaments. According to Roger Federer, the current situation of Nadal and Tsonga is probably because of over playing tennis and that is why he has expressed his thoughts to increase
the duration of four week break in the tennis season.
On the other hand, the twenty four years old Spanish tennis champ Rafael Nadal has already expressed that the tennis season is a bit too long and trying and introducing an off season would be a perfect option.
According to some very recent news reports, the Association of Tennis Professionals is going to conclude the calendar for the next season of tennis. Therefore, the recommendations of Roger Federer and current condition of the world number one Rafael Nadal
should be taken seriously by the Tennis Association to finalise the calendar for the next season. Moreover, the twenty three years old Serbian top tennis player Novak Djokovic has also backed the comments of Roger Federer and has admitted the fact that the
current calendar of tennis is trying and a bit too long.
Now the top players of tennis will head towards London to play the season’s final tennis tournament at the O2 Arena. After the World Tour Finals tennis tournament, which will be held in London, the players will get a break of four weeks before the beginning
of the next season.
Considering the injuries of some of the finest tennis players of the world and the suggestion by the legendary Roger Federer it is important for the Association of Tennis Professionals to introduce a new tennis calendar. As fitness and mental stability is
always important for an athlete and the six week break between the tennis seasons will definitely help the players to practice and relax well for the next season. By introducing a longer off season, the problems of mental suffering and injuries might be averted.
