Tennis Update: Andy Murray set to carry on without coach
Apparently, Briton Andy Murray is planning to fly solo as far as the 2011 tennis season goes. Murray parted with long time coach Miles Maclagan in the summer of 2010 and is not willing to replace the coach for the time being. The professional was supposed to take out time to recruit a new coach for the following season, however after having performed fairly well on his own, Andy seems to have changed his mind.
Murray is currently working on his game with former World no. 2 Alex Corretja on a part time basis. Apart from which, a close friend by the name of Dani Vallverdu has been a regular hitting partner of Andy's at the Sanchez-Casal academy in Barcelona. Additionally, Murray's physiotherapist Andy Ireland and physical trainers, Matt Little and Jez Green continue to work with the professional.
"I like working with the guys I work with. I've started improving and learning stuff again and the way things are now I feel everyone works well together. I just need to make sure that if I feel everyone is as motivated as I am to get me working to get to No 1, I'll probably keep working with the same bunch of guys and don't necessarily need to add anything. I need to wait and see because there are a lot of great coaches that I could work with," said Andy.
Since splitting up with Maclagan, Murray ended the year making it through to the semifinals of the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals. Dismally, the professional was defeated by Spain's Rafael Nadal who took the match based upon his 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 to advance to the finals of the championship.
"I need to be able to play that level for the whole year. This match is a huge motivation to get myself prepared properly in Miami and to improve everything. It does come down to the small differences. I need to train like the best player in the world. That's the only choice I have," stated Murray in regard to his loss against Rafa. In addition, Andy's recent performances seem to have boosted his level of confidence which puts him in good position for the 2011 Australian Open that is just around the corner.
