Tennis Update: Andy Murray successfully qualifies for the season ending tournament in London
The twenty three year old Andy Murray has successfully qualified for the season ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on Thursday after making his way into the quarter final round of the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters with a two setter victory over
his French opponent Jeremy Chardy in China. The London resident is the fourth contender to qualify for the elite eight man field of the year ending event, which is going to take place from 21st to 28th November this year.
World number one Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Roger Federer have already qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
The fourth ranked Murray after grabbing spot for London said on Thursday,
“It is great having now qualified for the Finals and it is amazing I get to play in front of a home crowd again, it was such a good atmosphere there back in 2009.”
The Scott, who was also a runner up at the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open earlier this season in January further added,
“I thought they did a great job organizing, particularly as it was the first year at The O2, they put on a great event and I look forward to playing again.”
Andy captured his fifteen title of the season this summer in Toronto after getting the better of Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer in the title battle. He also registered his name as the fifth contender to surpass both Nadal and Federer in a single event
as he previously got past the world number one Rafa on his way into the final of the Rogers Cup. Moreover, Murray was also a runner up at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles and made his way into the semi final in Wimbledon.
The right hander Murray will be playing on the third occasion in a row in this season’s year ending tournament, posting his best result back in 2008, when he advanced into the final four in London.
Four positions are still up for grabs at the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour finals which will take place next month. The champion of the ongoing 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters in china will add 1,000 South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings points to his year
total.
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the world’s greatest indoor competition, where the top eight contenders take part in a minimum of three clashes to determine which four of them will further reach the final four battle.
