Tennis Update: Australia's Jelena Dokic focusing on 2011 season
Jelena Dokic, 27, of Australia is aware of the fact that the moves she makes in 2011 are of utmost importance as far as her career is concerned. After 11 years, mostly away from Sydney, Dokic will return next month to participate
in the 2011 Medibank International Sydney.
Inclusive of compatriot and World no. 6 Samantha Stosur, the tournament is set to showcase seven of the ten top ranked female professionals in the World. Additionally, Jelena became the first tennis player to be given a wildcard
entry into the women’s main draw of the tournament.
Former World No.4, Dokic claims to be finding form after being injured for most of the 2010 tennis season. She stated that the ups and downs of her life had been sorted out since she last played the Sydney International as a sixteen-year-old.
''I think I'm really keen this year. A couple of years there obviously I had some problems and some injuries and didn't play for a while but I think my motivation is really back. I am working hard every single day at 100 per cent.
I think I've done more work in the last couple of months than I did in the last couple of years. I am really pushing hard on and off the court. I have a great team around me. Everything is really positive. I think I could be good for 2011,'' said Dokic.
Furthermore, Jelena has been working on her fitness, agility and strength. The Australian stated that she was up to her conditioning and endurance level that she had when she was in the top ten. Dokic added that it is great to have that feeling back.
Dokic believes that playing a stronger tournament this year will benefit her more. She also said that if you lose in the first or second round to a top-five player and you get a good match, it is most definitely worth it.
Jelena has also been granted a wildcard to the Brisbane International, which is to be played on Saturday, and has an entry to the 2011 Australian Open after making it to the final of its wild card playoff.
