Tennis Update: BCR Open Romania tennis competition- Highlights from Tuesday
The world number eighty seven , Marcel Granollers has reached the second round of the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament on Tuesday after defeating Victor Hanescu in a total of three sets. The Spaniard tennis player managed to overcome his slow start to
beat the 2007 finalist Victor in a time period of two hours in Bucharest. The final match score was 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
“Well off course I am very disappointed after losing today’s match,” said the sixth seeded Victor, who was hammered down by Gilles Simon in the title battle back in 2007. He added,
“In spite of the fact that I started off quite well however he did well to bounce back in the match and played some great tennis. Now after losing this match, I will take a break and relax and hopefully will come back to perform better for the rest of the
year.”
The twenty nine year old Victor as a result of this loss has now fallen in the opening round of the ATP World Tour 250 clay court tennis championship three seasons in a row.
Marcel, a clay court quarter-finalist in Santiago earlier in the year, improved to a 15-18 mark and will take on Filippo Volandri from Italy.
The eight seeded tennis player, Jeremy Chardy also registered his first victory in Bucharest after getting the better of Guillaume Rufin in a total of two sets on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-0, 6-2. The match concluded in a time period of sixty
one minutes in Bucharest.
“I had a good practice last week. I played a very good clash today versus an opponent I know very well. I am glad that I won it easily in the end,” said Jeremy who fired a total of six aces and dropped five service points on Tuesday.
He has so far reached a total of three ATP World Tour quarter-finals this season at Delray Beach, Gstaad as well as ATP World Tour Masters thousand Toronto.
Chardy as a result of this victory will next play Simon Vagnozzi, a qualifier from Italy who earlier toppled Marius Copil in a two setter clash. The final match score was 7-6(4), 6-4. The clash was stretched to a time period of one hour and fifty two minutes

Andreas Seppi, a seventh seeded tennis contender was also dispatched off in the opening round match, losing to a wild card entrant from Romania, Adrian Ungur in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.
In the doubles match, the third seeded Lukasz Kubot and Juan Ignacio Chela defeated Michal Przysiezny and Tomasz Bednarek in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 7-5.
The Slovakian- Czech duo of Filip Polasek and Leos Friedl also managed to win their first round match of the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament on Tuesday. The pair got the better of Pere Riba and Daniel Gimeno in a total of two sets. The final match score
was 7-6(6), 6-0.
Also on Tuesday, the professional tennis duo from Italy, Potito Starace and Daniele Bracciali got past Albert Montanes and Fabio Fognini in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1.
