Tennis Update: Briton Andy Murray resorts to football to get his mind off tennis
After having lost in the final of the 2010 Australian Open to Swiss man Roger Federer, Andy Murray of Britain is hoping for a change of luck in Melbourne this year. The professional has been keeping his mind off his opening tennis
match, which is to be played against Slovak Karol Beck by playing an impromptu football match along with Serb Novak Djokovic, as a party of the Rally for Relief campaign held to raise money for the Queensland flood victims.
"I went through some tough patches after the Aussie Open. I have very good memories from here. I have some bad ones, as well. I've had a couple of very tough losses here in the past. That was something I had to come back from and
I learned from, so I think mentally I'm in a better place," said Murray, who fell out on his form in February after having lost at the Australian Open.
Additionally, Andy is seeded fifth at the 2011 Australian Open, similar to his prior seeding at the 2010 Australian Open championship. Considering the fact that Murray is not bad at football in actuality or 'tennis' football for
that matter, his team brought life to the training sessions. Speaking to London's Daily Mail, Murray confessed his love for football.
"I'm addicted to it. I can’t stop tinkering with my team. I play in a league with a few other tennis players and a few mates. Last year I dominated the league from Christmas onwards and won it. But this year hasn’t been all plain
sailing. I’m mid-table but in touch with the chasing pack. It’s all about where you are at the end of the season though," said the professional.
In the year 2010, after having made it through to the men's singles final at the Australian Open, Murray lost an embarrassing 6–3, 6–4 and 7–6 (11) to Federer. Furthermore, the Briton was witnessed shedding few tears shortly after
the loss. However, considering Murray’s recent form, it is quite likely that the professional will stay on top and hopefully bag his first ever grand slam title this year.
