Tennis Update: Federer saw off Dolgopolov to qualify for the second round of Swiss Indoors
The Swiss superstar and former world number one tennis ace Roger Federer started his Swiss Indoors tennis championship with a win, as his rival Alexandr Dolgopolov was compelled to withdraw from the match in Basel.
The current world number two Roger Federer seemed dominant and stronger throughout the match. Before the retirement of current world number forty eight Alexandr Dolgopolov from the match, Federer was leading the game by 6-4 and 5-2. After fifty one minutes
of the match, the Ukrainian hit a very bad ankle injury and which led to his retirement from the match.
The current situation for the young twenty one years old Dolgopolov is very devastating, as he was hoping for a good battle against the Swiss veteran.
On the other hand, Roger Federer seemed pretty relaxed and concerned about his Ukrainian rival after the match. The twenty nine years old expressed his thoughts and views about the match and told the media that Dolgopolov was not in a good shape, as he was
suffering through a lot of pain. Federer added that he wanted to help Alexandr during the match and asked him if he needed help or anything else.
The ongoing Swiss Indoors tennis event is an important event for the Swiss ace as well because the twenty nine years old is currently eyeing to snatch back the trophy of the event that he lost previous year. It is to be memorized that Roger Federer has won
the Swiss Indoors tennis event for three times but last year the tennis veteran suffered a disappointing defeat from the current world number three Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Swiss Indoors tournament.
While talking about the tournament Federer expressed his views and said that this tournament is very special to him as it is his home tournament and winning a home tournament is not less than an honour. He said that it is a great pleasure for him to participate
in this tournament as it is one of his most favourite tennis events of the year.
Roger Federer has also been facing some criticism from the Swiss tennis Federation for bowing out from the squad of Switzerland for the Davis Cup. While talking about the matter, Federer told the media that he was not feeling fit to compete at the Davis
Cup. He added and said that his decision of pulling out from the tournament was not at all wrong as he loves to play for his country but he was not mentally ready to participate at the Davis Cup.
Federer told the media that he tries to be very straight forward with his thoughts and tries his level best to satisfy the media as well as his fans. The Grand Slam winner said that he has talked to the head of the Swiss tennis federation and now everything
is under control.
The Swiss legend will now face the twenty six years old and current world number forty six Janko Tipsarevic of Serbian or the young twenty four years old and current world number forty three Denis Istomin Uzbekistan in his next match.
In the other important matches of the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament, the current world number nineteen and eighth seeded for the event John Isner saw off his thirty years old French rival Michael Llodra after a stamina throbbing battle of tennis by 4-6,
7- 6 and 6-3. In the match, Isner showed a better playing form with great stamina and the victory in such a tough battle of tennis in the first round has given him a very strong motivation for the further stages of the tournament.
The Dutch Robin Haase hammered his unseeded Swiss rival Stephane Bohli in a pretty convincing game by 6-4 and 6-3.
