Tennis Update: Is the tennis in Canada at last going to breakthrough
The Canadian side is back in the Americas Zone Group one. For those who are unfamiliar, the Americas Zone Group I is just two levels behind the actual World Group, and only single level behind the World Group playoffs. This implies that the Canadian team
gets another opportunity to contest for a place in the playoffs again in 2011.
The last occasion, Canada reached into the World Group was six years ago, back in 2004. Prior to that, just on a total of two occasions, back in 1991 and 1992. Their best result was a semi final run, a couple of decades ago, back in 1913.
However, the good news for the Canadian tennis fans all over the world is that the Davis Cup side of Canada is in good shape and played quite impressively with a couple of top ranked tennis contenders from Canada who have exhibited a descent display of the
game of tennis at the Davis Cup tennis competition.
The Canadian side totally dominated the Dominican Republic, thrashing them out 5 - 0. In spite of the fact that the Dominican Republic is one of those countries that are not very much popular in terms of their talent and aptitude in the game of tennis. Even
then, the fact that a couple of clashes were won quite comprehensively by the Canadian tennis players is highly encouraging and worth mentioning without any measure of speculations.
Polansky has been playing quite well over the last few weeks and producing some good results, as he also managed to reach the second round of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament earlier this summer. Along with the second round at the United States Open tennis
competition in New York, after getting the better of seeds in the opening round of both the championships.
Then in the opening clash of the tie, the professional tennis player from Canada, Peter Polansky got past Jhonson Garcia in a total of four sets. The final match score was 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
So, is there a Canadian celeb in the making, probably?
How about Milos Raonic? Most of us may recognize his name from the pair that toppled the world number one and two, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in a doubles clash during the opening round of the 2010 Rogers Cup tennis tournament.
The tennis ace from Canada did show some mental strength in his clash versus the top ranked Dominican Republic player, Victor Estrella. After preventing a total of two match points during the fourth set, Raonic did well to beat Estrella in a total of five
sets in the end. The final match score was 5-7, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(3), 9-7. It was a tight clash where the Canadian played quite impressively till the end.
In the doubles clash, Dancevic teamed up with the world number three doubles contender, Daniel Nestor and comfortably got the better of their opponents in a three setter clash on the court. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4, and 6-3.
That was pretty much enough to seal the tie for Canada.
However, that didn't stop Dancevic and Peter from steamrolling in the previous two clashes.
Polansky without much effort dismissed Victor Estrella in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Dancevic, also did well to successfully defeat Garcia in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-0, 6-1.
Therefore, considering the recent performance of the Canadian tennis players at the 2010 Davis Cup tennis tournament as well as in the past few months, it looks like the Canadian tennis although slowly but at last is close of its break through on the tour.
