Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters of Belgium to possibly team up for the Olympics

Belgium's Justine Henin and compatriot Kim Clijsters are expected to join forces for the 2012 London Olympics. The professionals stated in a press conference that they are up for the idea but have to sort out their scheduling issues.

“Obviously for the Olympics, it would be beautiful. It would be nice to go out in such a way,” stated Clijsters. In addition, Henin said, “There is a real willingness to be there. We can already think about it.”

Formerly ranked no. 1 in the World, Henin currently has an Olympic gold medal to her name. On the other hand, Clijsters is yet to have competed at the Olympics.

In 2004, Henin went head to head with Amelie Mauresmo of France in the championship final of the Athens Olympics. Justine started the match with a 6-3 win in the first set and went on to win the second set, 6-3 to clinch an Olympic gold medal.

Clijsters and Henin teamed up in 2006 for the Fed Cup in the Women's doubles category but were defeated by the Russian team.

Furthermore, the Belgian professionals are currently working on their form as the 2011 Australian Open looms. Aged 28, Justine was sidelined for six months as she tore a ligament in her right elbow at the 2010 Wimbledon championship.

Henin stated that she is presently working on getting power on her serve. Additionally, Justine said, “For sure, I’m still not 100 percent. But I realize where I came from; I am lucky and happy to be where I am now.”

Both Justine and Kim clinched the World no. 1 spot prior to retiring and making a comeback. After having started a family life, ace mom Clijsters returned to the tour only to win the 2010 U.S. Open Women's singles title.

Seeded no. 2 at the tournament, Kim defeated Venus Williams of America 4-6, 7-6 and 6-4 to face Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the 2010 U.S. Open final.

Zvonareva made it through upon defeating Dane Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals of her draw. Wozniacki was beaten 6-4 and 6-3 to be sent home. Furthermore, Kim initiated the championship final with a 6-2 win in the first set and went on to take the second
set 6-1 to clinch the title.
