Tennis Update: Justine Henin to return for Hopman Cup
Formerly ranked no. 1 in the World, Justine Henin of Belgium is expected to return for the Hopman Cup after pulling out due to an injured right elbow. There is however a possibility that the professional might not be fully fit for the next six months.
Henin injured herself during the 2010 Wimbledon Championship and is yet to have played since. Furthermore, Justine's elbow will be assessed during the 2011 Australian Open which is to be played in the month of January in 2011.
"It is six months since the injury and I can't say I am 100 percent. I am working very hard on it and I spend two hours every day on my rehabilitation. When we heard about the serious injury there were concerns about the future of my career as it was pretty
serious. Now step by step I can improve, but it will probably take a few more weeks and maybe months before I can be 100 percent," said the Belgian.
Justine additionally stated that she was not yet free of pain while playing but was sure of the fact that she was going in the right direction. The professional said that her hard work and discipline helped her to get back into the tennis scene prior to the
Australian Open.
In the year 2010, Henin returned after a two year long break and made it through to the final of the Australian Open, opposed by Serena Williams of USA. Justine stated that she is realistic about the fact that this is her come back and that she realizes that
it has been a difficult year for her. She then said that she started the season off pretty well but otherwise it has been physically pretty difficult.
In addition, Justine said that it would take atleast another six months for her to be considered amongst her contenders. The Belgian also stated that she believes that with Serena out of the way, it is wide open. She however went on to say that she doesn't
count herself as one of the favorites.
"I hope I can build my condition this year by playing tournaments, and hope to be really ready around June, July would be great for me.", she concluded.
