Tennis Update: Pak-India duo Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna advance in 2011 Australian Open
The Asian duo comprising of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and India's Rohan Bopanna played a crucial second round match at the 2011 Australian Open in the Men's Doubles category before proceeding to the following round. Qureshi
and Bopanna went head to head with Arnaud Clement and Jeremy Chardy of France. Aisam and Rohan got off to a good start, after having broken Clement's serve at 4-3 and initiating the match with a 6-3 win in the first set.
As the second set started off, things were going well for the Asian pair shortly before the Frenchmen rose in terms of their performance to break Aisam's serve, taking the second set 6-4. Turning the tables on Qureshi and Bopanna,
Clement and Chardy led 4-1 in the third set right before the Asian pair blasted a couple of aces to get back into the game.
Furthermore, Rohan and Aisam went on to take the next five games in a row, out of which three were taken on their own serve and two were taken upon breaking Clement and Chardy's serves. The match lasted an arduous one hour and
forty-five minutes. Qureshi and Bopanna won 54 points in comparison to which the French pair won 41 of their points.
Rohan and Aisam will be opposed by Frenchman Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia in the third round of the Australian Open. Zimonjic and Llodra made it through to the third round upon defeating the Spanish pair of Pablo
Andujar and Daniel Gimeno Traver. Andujar and Traver were beaten 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set to be sent home.
Earlier, the Asian duo battled it out against Franco Ferreiro and Andre Sa of Brazil. Seeded no. 10 at the tournament, Aisam and Rohan took the first set 6-3 and went on to take the second set 6-2 to eliminate the Brazilian pair
from the 2011 Australian Open.
